My brother was a police officer for 30 something years, and after reading your post, I can only say good on you for the things you wrote! You wernt offensive or critising or rude, it was a good read, and I followed your advice and read to the end before I decided!
Too many people just like to criticise what others write no matter what it is, good or bad, because they are just that kind of person.. Don’t listen to the nasty stuff mate, just know you wrote from the heart, and it was good ?

I’ve been a little baffled about why so many people are offended, but I’m imagining that they are assuming it’s another not-so-nice rant and are probably on the defensive before they begin reading. I can certainly understand an officer’s wife feeling upset if she thinks someone is attacking her husband. They’re probably only seeing that I thought the officer did a poor job when my point is that it might have been a mistake or it might have just been a misperception on my part. Either way, we ought to be thankful for what they’re doing. But apparently even intimating that it’s possible a policeman is capable of making a mistake in the first place is not acceptable. Oh well, we’re all human like you said, misunderstandings and all. 🙂

I’m so sorry if this post bothered you. It’s felt that way for a lot of officer’s wives. I’ve consulted with a number of people over the wording, including a police officer’s wife who took it the same way you did at first. I can’t imagine the emotional turmoil you endure every day. After a lot of deliberation, we decided to leave things the way they were because this was how it most made sense, and once she could get past her emotions, she could see that it is a much-needed message for the average citizen. In no way was I criticizing this officer for what he did, but rather sharing the evolution of my thoughts from being concerned about the situation to realizing that in the big picture it was okay. Folks who are not emotionally tied to an officer are fully understanding my point, as has been evidenced by emails and comments on social media. Again, I am sorry if it feels like an attack. It’s truly the opposite, and I think you would be happy to know that people are understanding the greater message.
