I love to sit and chat with the older ladies. We can learn so much from them! I'm sure they had their faults and shortcomings, but you're right - they were amazing.

That generation really new how to persevere. I always pictured them as homemakers, and they were, but what surprised me is a lot of them worked. Especially during and after World War II. It just wasn't talked about. I always thought my grandma was home with her children and my dad told me the other day that no she had to work at a hospital for a time because there was such a staff shortage in the area. But kids back then took care of themselves starting at a very young age. Sometimes I think our idea of how homey and romantic it was because of culture views of women of the time, especially in advertisements and publications, we don't get to see the reality of what those women went through. They often held down jobs either in the home or near by, without credit, were required to keep up with the home and the kids. Free range parenting was a necessity. They just didn't have time to do it all. Yet they didn't get caught up in complaining or becoming a victim. It really is amazing.

I love this!! It's way too easy too fall into a lackidaisical attitude with our home! Thank you for the reminder that it's a blessing and a calling and we can't sit back and rock all day. This is an encouraging piece!

You're definitely not alone, Kaitlin! Finding that sweet spot between getting the rest we need and being a hard worker can be a little tricky!

Thank you for this post. I found it looking through Pinterest while I'm rocking my youngest to sleep for his nap. While I'm not extremely religious, I love where you're going & your intent with your message. I've been struggling with this so much lately & my house has spiraled out of control because of it. Many times I get up & already feel defeated in my day because there's so much to do & I don't want to do any of it. But I know I need to set a good example for my daughter & do what needs to be done before I do what I want to do. Thank you for showing me that I'm not the only one who struggles with this, even though I'm the one who wanted to be a stay at home mom. It's truly a blessing that unfortunately, not all mothers have the ability to know.
