Yes. I love the way you worded that: "Biblical truth does not leave anyone feeling enslaved." Christ was sent to heal the brokenhearted and to preach deliverance to the captives. (Luke 4:18)

Thank you for sharing this! It is needful info more men and women need. Biblical truth does not leave anyone feeling enslaved. If something makes one feel enslaved or used, the biblicalness of the concept needs to be seriously reviewed, even when it has become regularly accepted as truth.

I found Sheila before I married and her articles and books really helped me to get a better perspective on sex and marriage beforehand. I admire her courage to openly discuss such an “embarrassing/touchy” topic in order to help other women.

Do you believe that:
-Women should engage in intercourse even when it is painful?
-Women should be okay with their husbands sexually assaulting them?
-Women are responsible when their husbands commit adultery?
-Women whose husbands abuse them are actually to blame?

Because I don’t. The Jesus of the Bible protects women.

And that is the kind of harm that The Great Sex Rescue is trying to undo.
It’s not teaching women that either love or respect are wrong. The Bible has much to say about both, and both genders are expected to exhibit both love and respect to one another. However, the specific book called Love & Respect teaches these concepts in a way that enables abusive men and shames their wives into thinking the abuse is their fault. As I said in the article, even if that was not the author’s intent and his words were simply misunderstood, it is not wise and it is most unloving to abuse victims not to re-frame those words in a way where they cannot be misunderstood and weaponized.

No, this book is not blasphemous, and that is very unfair to throw such harsh words at it when you have never read it. This book is about teaching husbands and wives how to truly be intimate, not just to have intercourse. Intimacy is what God intended. Sex is marriage is not meant for a selfish husband to use his wife as a receptacle for his lusts, but instead to be the ultimate form of intimacy. A picture of Christ and the church experiencing a oneness that can only be understood by those that are His.

As I asked in the latter part of this article, I ask that you consider a broader perspective. It is only through humility and a willingness to listen that we can grow and untangle things we believed that we never realized were wrong. You don’t have to agree with everything, but you can never learn and grow without first truly listening and trying to understand someone else’s viewpoint.

Wow, this is a very sad and frustrating article. I am angry that this many “Christian” women think so highly of themselves that they are, in a sense, wanting to “fight for their rights.” This is not the jesus of the Bible—he is love but just as much just. This article is full of worldly feminism and is not at all godly. I’m sorry to say that this book sounds blasphemous. I would also encourage women to stop reading so many marriage books, because yes, the redeeming, self-sacrificing message of the gospel tends to be twisted when we take our eyes off of Christ and instead turn our eyes to directly improving our early marriage. “Love and respect” are words from the Bible; based on what she is staying, I don’t think I’m wrong in my thinking that she would suggest we rewrite the Bible because of man’s sin that attempts to cut away and manipulate God’s perfection. It’s prideful for a woman to think she ’deserves’ something better than where God has placed her. Often that’s a hard pill to swallow, and in NO WAY excuses sin of her husband. She needs to go before the elders who should be holding her husband’s feet to the fire, and if he is truly unrepentant then he may not be a believer at all—but PRAY!!! A true believer—man or woman—will be anchored to the truths in Gods Word even when it’s not a truth one would desire. It’sa beautiful thing to see Gods Body functioning as he intended it.

I will be unsubscribing and will pray that women do not fall into the trap of feminism that is becoming prevalent in the evangelical “Christian” world.
