Wow... in sick way. God, please forgive us! Give us wisdom & help us. My story is long to write here because I grew up in church my entire life. I'm 57. I feel sick to think of writing evil about Christ's body. As the thoughts come of the damage I've seen since I was 9 or 10y/o, so do the tears. Too many Godly men become prideful & arrogant and, sadly, the Church is too spiritually ignorant or immature to see. Pastors, who may have, at the beginning of their ministry, been wonderful shepherds to the flock, become a father to pews full of children. They begin to feel power & control. They gain members/followers. THE church becomes THEIR church. We're taught about Christ, but our eyes are on the man. When trouble comes, we've put our trust in our leaders and we don't know Scripture well enough to apply it. We ALL need accountability. And I'll go as far as to say, ESPECIALLY those in leadership positions. I don't know what your hurtful experience(s) has been, MaryEllen. I'm older now. Your words here may bring awareness to the innocent or they may stir that sick/ bitter feeling some get when we think of church. But I believe the blind & ignorant are going to remain just that... blind & ignorant. I've tried. I've carried & confronted with Scripture. Only to be told, "We'll have to agree to disagree." We, Believers, must literally fall to our faces and pull closer to Christ. There is peace AND power on our knees. -elizabeth

These are many of the same conclusions I've come to in the past decade. And if people leave the faith because of the abuse they faced within the church, they face more criticism instead of the church turning their criticism toward the wolves and the policies and attitudes that tolerate them.

Just today, I learned of a friend fleeing an abusive husband and I was able to encourage her and support her in her vulnerable state. I wasn't so informed and aware a decade ago. Keep sharing this information!
