I always thank god in my prayer for living in germany, always when I´m reading about health-care in in US.
Everybody is insured by law and pays 14 % from his income for the insurance. Wether you are single or have children. You are also insured when you are unemployed but registered for job-hunting for a full year.
Works for 80 Million people. Free Doctor visits, medicine or hospital.

Thanks. It's okay...I've been asked recently! Guess I still have some twin fat to lose! No, not pregnant but it's not out of the realm of possibility for the future. Thanks!

Yes, it is definitely something to consider. As I mentioned in the post, the max is 250K, but families who wish to do so can pay an additional fee and be eligible to have bills covered which exceed that amount.

This sounds good for basic needs, minor operations, etc...As a registered nurse, I suggest that one thing you do need to keep in mind is the limit. If a child would get a serious illness i.e. leukemia and require several rounds of chemo, that adds up. For many treatments, a single round of chemo is thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. I know my father in law had chemo when battling cancer and one of the drugs used in one round of his treatment was $15,000. Luckily he had good insurance when he retired from the state. Samaritan's does sound good. Each person just needs to do research and keep the above scenarios in mind.

They do cover maternity as long as you are not pregnant before you join. (Cough. Won't even ask. :) ) For maternity, it's just the first $300 for the total pregnancy, and I don't even think I even had to pay any of that because I negotiated my bills down.

So I've been thinking about this for a little bit, and your post seems timely. W are a special case with our mission board since we are staying stateside and we have to get our own insurance. Do they cover maternity? And does that mean you pay the first $300 of the pregnancy, or the first $300 of EVERY VISIT? Because when I had the twins, I had a sono every month so the costs were a lot.
