I SO agree with this wonderful post! Thank you for sharing your heart and your experiences in this overly sexualized culture. I have 3 girls and I will guard their eyes and ears as long as possible!!!

I've personally heard Luke Gilkerson speak about "The Talk" and highly recommend the book!! I've also heard someone from Covenant Eyes speak on what they do and it's something we will invest in when my girls have more internet access.

It's so hard to know sometimes how things "sound" when you can't convey a tone of voice. Thanks for the encouragement, Amy!

Mary Ellen, to reiterate what another commenter said, thank you for the humility and grace you demonstrate when responding to those in disagreement with you. I have benefited from reading through the comments and your responses just as much as (if not more than) your post itself. A beautiful marriage of grace and truth... Thank you for representing Jesus well.

I'm sorry about that, Lee. I have guidelines in place for the ads my ad network will allow to show up, but sometimes things slip through that I'm definitely not in agreement with. Since not everyone sees the same ads, I don't always see things the same ads you might see. I do encourage my readers to please let me know if something inappropriate is showing so I can address it with the ad network and have it removed ASAP. Thank you!

This is interesting to see, since as an Orthodox Jew, we are also concerned with guarding our eyes.
I would add, for the readers who are concerned that their girls (and boys) will feel that the body is shameful, an additional way of looking at modesty.

We tell our girls not that their body is bad, but that it is special and holy. It is holy, because it was given them to serve G-d. It is special, because of who they are, the things are bodies can do that are so important, etc. We give the example of the Hope diamond, talk about it's beauty, and explain that the Hope diamond isn't left out on a kitchen counter for the whole world to see. It is carefully guarded, only certain people get to see it, and it is handled very carefully, because of its' beauty and inherent value.

Then we explain that they are the same way. They are precious in our eyes and in G-'d's eyes, and like the diamond, must be careful how they dress and act (act, because being a child of G-d is like being a real, true princess/prince.

We also explain that looking at images that are inappropriate are harmful to their souls, which are especially sensitive, and so they need to be careful what they see and hear.

It does, actually. :) And if you're genuinely interested in the question of who Cain's wife was, this is a great place to start reading: https://answersingenesis.org/bible-characters/cain/cains-wife-who-was-she/

I mean- Adam and Eve needed to get it on right away if they were going to produce enough kids for Cain and Able to populate the entire earth though incest with their sisters.

Just saying.
