Ha! I understood what you meant. :)
As I mentioned in the post, I certainly believe there is a time and a place for rest and refreshment. We can't do the Lord's work if we're drained. But I'm really afraid (from observations in my own life and in the Christian community as a whole) that we really place to much of a premium on entertainment in light of how very short our time here on earth is. There's definitely a balance, I would agree.

In my first sentence, I meant they are good comments to be directed toward a person not in the word -- Im not saying you aren't! :)

You make some lovely points for a person not invested in the word. The words is nourishment and life-- but I fear this post casts "rest" & "entertainment" in a demonizing light. Rest is so purely vital to our human condition-- and Jesus even demonstrated so. He always retreated to a place of solitude after continuous evangelizing. And he is often seen relaxing with friends (both believers and non-believers) over a quaint repast. Jesus NECESSITATES rest. Besides, if these "good clean Christians"are living life right, Jesus will be at the heart of their rest and entertainment anyway. Jesus wants our entirety, but he does not request a immovable militia.

I agree with you, Jenny. There's definitely a time and a place to relax and just enjoy life. But it seems that I observe (both in my own life and the Christian community in general) that there's just too much of a premium on having fun and forgetting just how much work we have to do in and how short our time on earth is. But no, running ourselves ragged isn't right either; there's definitely a balance.

I really appreciate your perapective, although I'd like to insert another. I know so many ministers of the gospel that are working themselves ragged, not investing in just plain fun with their children and spouses. These people, in an effort to be effective ministers have neglected the relational aspect of ministry...getting to know on another in community, eating with one another, shooting the bull and just "being" and enjoying fellowship. As the Father fellowships with the Spirit and the Son. I agree that Christians waste a ton of time pursuing enjoyment and entertainment, and we must certainly be wise managers of our time, but that should include a healthy dose of enjoyment. even in James He tells us that he blesses us with good things for our enjoyment. Just my thoughts.

I didn't think this would be a popular post; it certainly steps on toes (including mine!) But it's been on my heart and that's exactly what I want to do here - edify my sisters. Thanks so much for your comment!
