I think you’Re right. Have you ever made a post and then two of your FB friends – who don’t know each other, start an argument in the comments over something you wrote. The best thing to do is just to delete the post. Just letting the animosity hang there in plain view seems untidy, and nobody wants to back down so why not just eliminate the whole thing. I think the next best step is to delete your FB account. But if I had children and a happy home life I would probably want an FB account to share pictures with my theoretical family and friends.

Awesome post! I feel that Facebook should be something that my children can be in the room with me for (or any online activity, really), and have used the “hide” button often!
“Before posting, remember, this is a public forum. Think of yourself standing up before a group of several hundred people (or however large your friend list is) with a microphone making your status announcement. This is essentially what you are doing.”

I'm not entirely sure what the author is referring to, but I do know that I have seen a LOT lately about criminals gleaning their information of people's whereabouts through social media. It's common sense not to announce to the world when you're home, where you are, where your children are and whether they're attended or unattended, etc. Sometimes we announce those things without even intending to, or have location settings enabled where people can see where we are.

Very nice – thanks. I have seen the carnage and experienced it myself – wrote something that I didn’t mean to be negative but it was taken completely the wrong way by someone whom I care about.

Very good post, thank you for this. I have often tried to apply Mrs Camp’s “If there’s any doubt, don’t,” motto to Facebook and other sites. You can never be too careful!
