So happy for you:-) I've had a hospital birth with a midwife, and three home births with a midwife, and if I hadn't had the home birth option I would have most definitely done a birth center! Midwives are just the best when it comes to maternal and birth care...I love them:-) AND they only charge you what it actually costs to have a child...my first two cost under $2000 and my third homebirth was $2300...and you get superior one on one care! Your care from them is not limited to your monthly visit...they are there for you anytime of any day! I'm glad you had a good experience and that little munchkin arrived safe and sound!!!

In reply to <a href="https://www.imperfecthomemaker.com/2013/11/birth-center-vs-hospital.html#comment-2722">Whitney</a>.

I drove 45 minutes, Whitney. I was fine with leaving the house a little earlier this time because I knew I'd be able to relax when I got there. I was concerned about the coming home too, to be honest, but it has worked out great! My mom is keeping the kids for the same amount of time as she would if I were in the hospital - I requested that I be treated as if I were in the hospital - the kids can come by as visitors only, and no responsibilities like cooking. I had meals prepared ahead and others are bringing food as well. It has been very restful with those arrangements, but yes, there are things that certainly could have contributed to making it a little more difficult with the coming home early part. Thankfully we were able to get them worked out.

Congratulations!! I definitely agree that it is much easier to labor at home than it is in a hospital. I'm always so torn when it comes to hospital or birth center deliveries. I'd have to drive to Statesville for the birth center. Although it might be just as close as driving to CMC-Main in traffic. I just don't know about the coming home part. Especially with three other children at home. Even when I come home from the hospital, everyone expects me to pick up where I left off. No resting. I can't imagine doing that just a few hours after giving birth. Although it would be nice to not have people come into room every three hours at the hospital.

I love your choice to have a birth center birth. I had my first two babies completely natural in a hospital bed, and hated the nurses bugging me, poking me, not telling me I was being pumped with pitocin after the birth. Thankfully, my OB retired before I became pregnant with my third, and while I was pregnant my new doctor was fired. Little did I know, all the talking i did about a home birth was really sinking into my husbands brain. (I like to call it planting seeds, once in a while they grow and produce!) He came home one day so upset he said, lets just have the baby at home. I squealed with delight and got on the phone with a friend who used a midwife for many babies. Best decision we ever made, for all of us. It was wonderful, relaxed and absolutely stress free. Having a hospital birth with a random on call doctor would have cost us upwards of $7000, we had our daughter for $1500.
