Oh thank you! I call it "mom guilt." All those expectations we heap upon ourselves that really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. And it's not only for the full-time-stay-at-home homemaker. It's also for those of us trying to be both the homemaker and a helper with contributing to the family income.
I just came across this post and it was very much what I needed to hear. I have this very judgmental voice in my head, but it only judges me! I really struggle with not meeting pre-set (and sometimes completely arbitrary) goals of "perfection" that I create for myself. Thank you for the encouragement!

I am an older lady. My children are grown. I get so amazed at how much pressure mothers put on themselves. I wonder if it has something to do with the culture of information and commercialism. In other words, they see and hear all the TV shows, magazines, Facebook notes from 'wonderful' mothers about all they are doing, facebook recipes that they just have to try, books galore on how to raise children....so many things shown in media that may make them feel that they don't quite 'measure up.' Even the Biblical resources tend to do this as well. I like the way the article ended with basically pleasing God, pleasing your husband, and loving your children...and that includes pleasing your husband with his needs - not what books tell you he needs! :-) I saw a cartoon once...have never forgotten it. It showed a Bible Bookstore. On the wall with the Bibles were very FEW people...but in the book sections on bible studies for women and those types of books the store was packed. Hmmm.....

This was great! I do that apologizing-to-my-husband thing too! I really needed the reminder about stopping what I'm doing to tend to the emotional needs of my kids. This is a constant battle for me - I like to FINISH what I start, and I don't really like interruptions. So many times I push them aside when they should be most important. Thanks!
