Sometimes when I get to feeling sleepy during the day I try to think through what I've done/haven't done that is contributing to my sleepiness.
Often the answer is obvious, but it is sometimes hard to figure it out when your brain doesn't want to wake up and function!
I came up with a list of basic questions to go through sort of like a checklist. Each of these things will easily make you feel sleepy, so if you're feeling tired, try these first!
Here they are:
1. Am I dehydrated?
2. Did I take my vitamins today? (Here are some suggestions.)
3. Do I need a chiropractic adjustment?
4. Have I eaten enough today?
5. Have the foods I've eaten been nutritious or simply empty calories?
6. Have I been getting enough sleep?
7. Have I gotten some type of exercise today?
8. Is my house/work area a mess?
9. Have I been extra busy or stressed lately?
If you're careful to do these things and you still can't seem to shake the sleepiness, you may be interested in my eBook entitled Farewell, Fatigue: How I Overcame Chronic Fatigue the Natural Way. I was doing all the right things but lived in a state of chronic exhaustion until I found a natural doctor who helped me tremendously! I've shared all I learned from her (and then some!) in my book.
Is there anything I've forgotten to put on this list? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Answer this question right now.
What's for dinner tonight?
If the answer is “I don't know,” when are you going to figure it out?
Will you wait until 5:00, when you will throw something together, inwardly kicking yourself for not feeding your family something more nutritious?
Planning your meals ahead saves money (no picking up takeout), reduces stress (no guilt trip over feeding your family sandwiches for supper), and helps your family be more healthy (always have the ingredients you need to prepare balanced meals.)
The problem with meal planning for some people is that it requires a window of time each week to sit down and figure out what to put on the meal plan.
Build a Menu is an easier way to meal plan, but you still get to choose what you want to prepare rather than having the menu determined for you. They are running a special right now where you can get 3 months for $15. This is a great way to try it out and see if you like it!
You can also choose specialty menus if you need them, like gluten free or Trim Healthy Mama! You can choose the store where you'd like to shop, and your shopping list will automatically be created for you as you create your menu, along with the approximate total you'll be spending for the week.
I posted a few months ago exactly how it works if you'd like more information. Check it out here.
I don't really like the summer. I'm not all about tans, sunscreen, beaches, or anything hot. I am definitely more of a winter girl. I love the snow…except in New York City. But that's a different story. I don't enjoy going to the beach, or sitting in the hot sun. But one of my favorite things about summer is all the fresh fruit and vegetables that are easily obtained. I especially enjoy honeydew melon. Last year a friend introduced me to honeydew on a whole new level – add some fresh mint!
I have some windowsill herbs that constitute the entirety of my urban garden. Peppermint is one of the plants that I haven't killed off yet, so I just snipped off a few springs. After chunking up my honeydew, I added the chopped mint. It adds a whole new dimension to the juicy melon that makes it even more of a treat! You can add a peppermint garnish, too. If you want to dress it up even more, add some chopped cucumber for a flavorful salad. If you don't grow peppermint at home, you can probably find some at your local farmer's market, along with other fresh herbs.
This is one thing about summer that I can love!
Water is necessary for life. But what if that life-giving water is tainted with harmful chemicals? How clean is your water? And what can you do when your water is not clean?

We all know that it's ideal to get your nutrition from the food you eat. But if we're realistic we have to admit that doesn't always happen. For one thing, much of the food available isn't as nutrient-dense as it could be due to depleted soil. For another thing, we homemakers are just plain busy! We don't slow down enough to even eat at all sometimes, much less to eat with intention to help our food digest and be properly absorbed.
But we can't afford to let our bodies live on less-than-stellar nutrition. Ask me how I know.
These are the things I take every single day to help make sure my body has what it needs to function properly and be energized:
Micellized D3 – Vitamin D is so important for keeping the immune system functioning properly! The best source is from sunlight, but many people are still deficient. These drops are the easiest for the body to absorb. It would be good to have your levels checked before you supplement and have a dr. prescribe the right dosage. I am currently taking 10x the amount suggested on the bottle, but only because that is what the dr. ordered based on my levels!
Garden of Life RAW Probiotics – therapeutic grade probiotics; one of the few brands that arrive refrigerated so that they stay alive!
Garden of Life Cod Liver Oil – Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin D, and DHA are crucial nutrients to my health, especially when breastfeeding. Taking a spoonful of this everyday ensures I get what I need.
Liquid Chlorophyll – provides magnesium and helps…ahem…keep you “regular”. I used to buy the NOW brand, but I don’t see it on their site right now.
Vitamins – I can tell a huge difference in my energy level if I don’t take my vitamins. These are an organic, whole-foods (non-synthetic) vitamin and herb blend. I will probably always take the prenatals, pregnant or not. I've found a good product, so I think I'll stick with it!
All of these items except for the Vitamin D I purchase through Vitacost as they usually have the lowest price. You can also get a coupon for $10 off a $30 purchase if you go through my referral link.
